2. DOUGALD2 MCDOUGALD (WILLIAM ALEXANDER1 MCDOUGALL) (Source: Michael McDougald, Correspondence from Michael McDougald, "... a remark on something I learned from an old church bulletin in North Carolina. Dougald was apparently a major in the Civil War fighting, of course, for the South. He must have been a large landowner for it gave the quote: 'Dougald had about 100 slaves.' ... Dougald apparently lost everything in the Civil War, but came back and started over and built up another fortune and lost it in a bad investment competing with the railroad. I then made the assumption that he might have been broke and old and told his three sons, 'Let's go to Southeast Georgia and get into something we know.' Turpentine, Pine trees. Naval stores. Within a few years of coming south you can see the accomplishments of son John Alexander who became mayor, built the big house and became a community benefactor. He was a large landholder with extensive turpentine stills and farms.") was born July 05, 1832 in Leargybreack, Isle of Jura, Scotland, and died March 15, 1904 in Statesboro, GA. Religion: Freewill Baptist

Buried in Calhoun Co., Fla. Traveler's Rest Cemetery (may also be known as the Hanlee's Rest), located at Freewill Baptist Church. Stone on her grave was purchased by Mattie & Nell Blue for $50. Death discrepancy. Some records show 13 DEC 1921 others show 14 NOV 1921. Mattie Lee Blue Baxley, her eldest daughter, remembers she was buried 15 DEC 1921.

Just after Miller's death she died as a result of convulsions. Her death certificate does not state cause of death, but it was presumably from complications from the birth. The family bible indicates that her death
was December 13, 1921, which the Bible also indicates as Miller's birth date. Her death certificate indicates she died November 14, 1921. Also, Miller's birth certificate indicates he was born November 14, 1921. Interestingly, he was never able to get a copy of his own birth certificate and therefore always celebrated his birthday on December 13, 1921.

  Notes for CORNELIUS MCPHERSON BLUE:
He was raised in NC and later moved to Statesboro, GA. It was there that he met his wife, Hallie McDougald. After their marriage, they moved to Bushnell, FL, where Cornelius worked as a farmer. He was also known to have worked in the turpentine industry, possibly for or with his father. Cornelius died just several years after Hallie. He is buried at the City Cemetery in Bushnell. He died of malarial fever.

After the deaths of Hallie and Cornelius, the children were sent to live with relatives. Eventually, the boys went to the Barium Springs Orphanage in NC where they were raised. Some of the girls were already
grown, others went with relatives.
