  Notes for Reece Larry Clay:
Reece Clay was in the 200th Coastal Artillery stationed in the Philipines when World War II began. He was captured by the Japanese and made the Bataan Death March. He was held as a prisoner of war for 44 months. When he returned home from his ordeal in the prison camp, I was fortunate to spend a summer with him. We made every rodeo we could where he entered the calf roping events. He ranched with his father most of his life and was quite a cowboy and fancy roper. One time he roped a bear and when he told the other cowboys about it they wouldn't believe him. So, he went back, found one, roped it and brought it back to prove he had done it. Once he came back to the ranch with an antelope tied up and slung over his horse. He had roped it and wanted me to see it. He was larger than life as far as his family was concerned and his death at age 35 was such a shock. He never married.
