      9. Thomas Winfield Scott "Scotty"3 Clay (Charles Quincy2, Mr.1) was born 22 June 1902 in Ft. Towson, Choctaw Nation, Ind. Ter. (now Choctaw Co., OK), and died 07 June 1963 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS. He married Madeline Ruth "Madge" Smith 10 July 1933 in Lamar. Barton Co., MO, daughter of Franklin Smith and Easter Brummett. She was born 26 December 1912 in Lamar, Barton Co., MO, and died 04 December 1992 in Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS.

Notes for Thomas Winfield Scott "Scotty" Clay:
His given name is Thomas Winfield Scott Clay. However, in his school and formative years he was called "Scotty" by his friends, neighbors, and family. To his sister Fannies's children he was lovingly called "Uncle Dick".

Thomas had had one lung removed on 4 February 1963 due to cancer. His death on 7 June 1963 was due to calcification and failure of his remaining lung. Burial was on June 11, 1963 in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS.

Notes for Madeline Ruth "Madge" Smith:
Madeline was known by her nickname "Madge" during her formative years and adult life.

Madeline died of congestive heart failure and other complications. After her death on 4 December 1992, she was cremated on December 7, 1992 at Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS, Her ashes were taken and scattered in Muddy Creek at Lamar, Barton Co., MO by her children as she had requested.

WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENTS: SMITH-CLAY
Miss Madeline Smith, 20, and Scottie Clay, 30, were married at 8:30, Monday evening, at the home of Mrs. John Webb on North Poplar. The ceremony was performed by Barton County's locally famous marrying parson, the Rev. W.H. (Preach) Haddock. Scottie had a nice suite of rooms at Mrs. Webb's prepared for his bride. Scottie has a job on the road bunch, who are paving 160. He is the brother of our townsman Rev. Will Clay. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith of this city. She and the groom have been sweethearts, for perhaps a year.
