      780. Thomas Huntley, born 1736 in Essex or Bedford County, Virginia; died Abt. 1802 in Anson County, North Carolina. He married 781. Zilphia Meadows Bef. 1762 in Bedford County, Virginia.

      781. Zilphia Meadows, born January 06, 1746/47 in Bedford/Amelia, Virginia; died June 18, 1812 in Anson County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of 1562. Jason Meador-Meadows and 1563. Elizabeth Stone.

Thomas Huntley Private Revolution from NC From DAR Pat. Index-Centennial

!He came to Anson Co. from Bedford Co, VA about 1760. He settled on the south
side of the middle prong of Jones' Creek in Gulledge Twp, Anson Co., N C, at a
spring. His grave is in a field near the creek and was originally a double
grave walled up and built over with brick. A fence was around it originally,
but this has disappeared. it is supposed that his wife is buried beside him.
The old Meadows place is not very far from the the old Huntley place in Anson
County.

!He served the American
cause in the Revolutionary War, as is shown by the Revolutionary Army records of N C, by furnishing money and materials.

The following is copied from the records of the N C Historical Commission, Raleigh: Revolutionary Army Accounts, Vol. V page 32, folio 1:
" an Acount of Cloathing, Currency and Specie Certificates sent to the Commissioners at New York by the Comptroller of the Public Acco'ts of the State of North Carolina, May 1790." the three
lines constitute the heading for the following three items, the amounts being
in pounds, shillings, and pence: Vol V, page 32, folio 4: 31 T.

Huntley 4 pounds, 0 shillings, 0 pence, and Vol V. page 37, folio 3: 882 T.
Huntly..... 12 shillings, 0 pence. Revolutionary Army Accounts, Vol. VI, pshr
23 folio 4: "Hillsorough Treasury Office "10 Stephen Miller, sheriff of
Anson County, 35 Thomas Huntley................Principal 9 pounds, 2
shillings, 0 pence: (No interest)

!Left a will. It was written 11 Jan 1800 and was witnessed by Thomas Lewis and
Elijah Huntley. It was probated in April, 1802 which indicates he died just
prior to that time.

!He most likely was born about 1730. See "Thomas Huntley Sr. of Anson Co. N C.
by Virgil W. Huntley.

! On original land grant owned by Mattie Lou Horne shows the name of Timothy
Huntley.This could be an error;; however a Timothy Huntley a descendent of the
John Huntley family of Lyme, Conn. who was under the guardianship of his
brother Nathan on 11 Oct 1748 and which quardianship was discharged 3 Nov 1752
COULD be our Thomas. Timothy sold all of his land in Conn.. He appears on the
Tax list of Nine Partners, Dutchess Co N. Y from Feb 1763 to June 1765 After
1765 this Timothy cannot be found in N.Y or New England.

!A recent discovery in Anson Co N C Deeds offers further proo that Thomas
Huntley Sr. was born much earlier than 1745 In Anson Co Deed Book 7:340/41

!Philip May conveyed property to John Jackson and his wife Keziah on Dec. 3
1769. Witnesses were Jason Meadows, Jr. (another of Paul O'Keefe's ancestors)
Wm. Rone or Rorie and Thos. Huntley Sr's daughter Susannah. She had to have
been born no later than 1753 making Thos. birthyear imposssible.
