The Michael & Irma Hayden Clay Family of Prairie Village, KSUpdated December 27, 2000 | |
| Michael introduced Irma to his great grandmother Speer (age 94 in 1971) and his great grandmother was quite excited because her mother-in-law's maiden name had been Hayden. Michael and Irma married in 1972 and had their first child 3 months after great grandma Speer died at age 101 in 1977. A Hayden geneology book was uncovered and it was discovered that Michael and Irma are 6th cousins. Their 4xgreat grand father is Jonathan Hayden who fathered 21 children by 2 marriages. Michael and Irma's grandfathers are from the first marriage, Irma's grandfather is the 1st son and Michael's is the 4th son. Michael's family, the Clays are cousins of Henry Clay and that line came to America from Wales with Sir Walter Raleigh. We were able to photograph some of the geneology info from the museum of Henry Clay in Lexington Kentucky thanks to the curator. Michael's Mother's name is Zulauf and would like more info on her family. Zulaufs are from the Alsace region of France/Germany and they immigrated in the late 1800s to America. Irma is looking for more information about her mother's family, Martin. Her Great Grandfather, George Martin was one of 5 brothers that fought in the civil war from an area around Winston-Salem and were part of the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys. I believe a book (local) was written about them. Anyway her grandfather was captured, a POW at Itica and released with an understanding not to return to North Carolina. He ended up in Northwest Missouri. She is also looking for more info on the original group that came with William Penn as some of her family were Quakers. |
