Leonard Clark migrated from Pittslyvania County, Virginia to Smith County, Tennessee with his wife Ann and and five children, sometime before July 1816. In the 1820 Census of Smith County, Tennessee, this family was enumerated as follows: husband, wife, and five children, all under the age of 10. There were four boys and one girl.

Leonard and Ann Snoddy Clark were married in Pittsylvania County, Virginia on December 22, 1809. Their oldest male child was Thomas Anderson Clark, whose job on the trip west, was to watch out for indians. The other children that were enumerated on the 1820 Census were: James Clark, a female child, name unknown, but who might be Arra Anna Clark, b.17 Oct.1811 and who married Gregory Moore of Smith Co., TN, John Lawson Clark and Alfred P. Clark. There were other children born to this couple after they arrived in Tennessee. They were Byrd Lewis Clark, Ann Clark, Wyley J. Clark, and Robert or Robin Clark, the youngest. Family lore, in the Thomas Anderson Clark family, stated that this family was comprised of twelve or thirteen children.

Of the known children, Thomas Anderson Clark was the only child to remain in Smith County, Tennessee. He grew to manhood on Bluff Creek, married and raised his family on Bluff Creek and Dyer's Branch, outside of New Middleton, Smith County, Tennessee. He was buried on his farm, in the family cemetery on Dyer's Branch in an unmarked grave. The oldest girl, her name unknown, supposedly married and moved to Alabama. Again,I believe this might be Arra Anna Clark mentioned above. If so, she lived out her life near New Middleton, Smith Co., TN. John Lawson Clark, married and moved to Osage County, Missouri in the late 1830s. Alfred P. Clark left Smith County, only to return in his later years, to live with his son Ed Clark until his death. He and his famly lived in Sumner Co., TN & Allen Co., Ky for some years and was found there on the 1870 Census. Byrd Lewis Clark and Wyley J. Clark married sisters and migrated to Crittenden County, Kentucky. Wyley and his wife, late in life, moved to Texas and died there. Their younger brother, Robin (Robert) was enumerated along with his sister Ann Clark Clardy and James Clardy on the 1850 Smith County Census. He was listed with his brother, Byrd Lewis Clark in the 1860 Crittenden County Census. It is said that he died a bachelor.

A few years ago, three or four more of the siblings were found in Sumner Co., TN. They were Keziah Ann Clark, b. July 5, 1821 who married Allen Graves, Martha Susan Clark, b.Oct. 23, 1829 who married William Henry Morris and Richard C. Clark, b. April 14, 1831 who married twice, first to Eliza Coates and second to Mildred Graves, sister of Allen Graves. There is a James H. Clark there also that I suspect is another sibling.

This page is dedicated to the memory of my parents, Ernest Chapman Clark, Cdr, Ret. USN and Lula Elizabeth Bibb-Clark. Both were interested in family history and collected notes on their respective families. Without these notes, important connections couldn't have been made.
