Isaac Newton Claussen went by "Newt". He had a son prio r to his marriage with a now unknown woman, who was calle d "Little Newt"; this child lived with him and died young . He married Ida May Jones Cook, who was a widow or divorc ee with a young child, in 1897. He lived and farmed at hi s mother's farm in Degognia township, which he inherited fr om her. His mother is shown in the household on the 1900 ce nsus.
He was an atheist and he professed to be an "infidel". H is nephew said that, "He always carried ALL his money in h is pocket in a tobacco sock. He requested that when he die d he be buried with his hat on his chest and money in his p ocket. A friend, Hurdy Bradshaw, to whom he had sold his f arm, placed 65 cents in his pocket and his hat on his ches t prior to burial." Newt died at age 38 of pneumonia at hi s farm at Jones Ridge, prior to the birth of his youngest c hild, who also did not survive. His estate administrator w as William Bennett. His personal estate included corn an d wheat in the field, some livestock, etc. valued at $1,67 5 and he owned real estate at N 1/2, NW 1/4 of section 36 , 8 S, 5 W, Jackson Co., IL, valued at $4,000. He is burie d with his 3 children who died young in Glenn Cemetery.

According to Wayne Claussen, who knew the family well, an d her nephew Mack Jarrett, Ida May Jones was first marrie d to Grant Cook. They had children, but only one's name i s known and he was likely the only to survive. She was nex t married to "Newt" Claussen, and had 3 children with him , with only one surviving to adulthood, Cora Jane. One chi ld was born after Newt's death, and only lived 5 months . Still a young woman, she had already known a great dea l of hardship. Ida's third marriage was to Arthur Franklin , and fourth to Harve Ball. She is buried with Mr. Ball an d her daughter Cora Jane and Cora's daughter at Evergreen C emetery at Chester, Randolph Co., Illinois.

"Little Newt" Claussen, son of Isaac Newton Claussen, is pr obably the W.N. Claussen buried at Glenn Cemetery, Aug. 15 , 1892 to (unreadable) 27, 1900. "Little Newt" died of mea sles and pneumonia. His parents were unmarried, and his mo ther's identity is no longer remembered. He is shown at ag e 7 living with his father and stepmother in the 1900 censu s, and must have died later that year.

William Blodgett, born in NYC, came to IL as a boy. He i s working as a farm hand in the 1910 census of Christian Co ., Stonington tsp., for the Wilcox family, neighbors of Gid eon B. Claussen. His wife is not with him, but he states h e has been married for 20 years. He lived in Stonington fo r many years, before moving to Decatur. He married Mrs. Ma ry Tabor after his first wife Sarah Claussen's death. He d ied after a 3 week illness of influenza and pneumonia at th e home of his step-daughter, Mrs. Maude Ellis. John E. Blod gett or Pope, born after 1885, was probably a grandson of W illiam.
