My family tree has many surnames in it.So far the main origin of most of the surnames is Scottish, Irish, and English. The primary surnames that can be found in this family tree are- Gilliland, Vanlandingham, Brackall and Followell.The family lines that have been found to have been here the longest are- the Gillilands, whose history goes back to the early 1700's in America.Followed by the Brackalls, Johnsons, and Followells. The majority of the Gillilands can be found in Ohio, but they originally came to Virginia and moved to West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana.The Vanlandinghams for the most part have been in Indiana, where as the Followells originated in Kentucky, but may have came through New York on arrival in the U.S., but moved to Indiana.The Brackalls came from Pennslyvania and moved to Indiana and Illinois.The Johnsons and Pitts can be mostly found in Kentucky and Indiana.The wife of my great-great-great-great grandfather on my mother's side through the Followell line was a Schoonover-her father was born in Germany.There have been references that the surname of Royer, through my mother's side of the family, may have spelled Roher or Rhoer and may have originated in France. My mother's side of the family tree is the most developed and accurate, especially through the women.Going back from my mother, the predominate surnames that can be found through the women are- Vanlandingham, Brackall, Followell, Johnson and Pitts.Through my father's side of the family, the predominate surname is Gilliland, which has a long history that is primarily Scotch-Irish in it's origin. Other surnames that can be found in my family tree through my mother's side are- Black, Walker, Royer, Sexton, Salyards, and Kincaid.Through my father's side - Tackett, Bueche, Kent, Crabtree, Smith, Burnside, for example. Other spellings of Gilliland are - Gilleland and Gillilan, and other spellings of Brackall are - Brachall, Brechal and Blackall. Research is still being done on this family tree, therefore there could be inaccurate information.If you find inaccuracies please let me know. |
