Window of First Protestant Church, New Braunfels, dedicated to her (to left of church entrance): "Christ the Consoler", one of the original windows. "In memory of Our Mother, Mathilde Seele nee Blum," dedicated in1929 by Mrs. Seele's children. the window depicts Christ with his arm around someone.

Hermann and Mathilde were travelling by wagon, when train came by, caused horse to rear up, she fell out and broke her leg in 1880. She developed gangrene. She cried and cried. While she was out when treated with chloroform, her leg was cut off below the knee, and she was fitted with an artificial leg. She lived with this artificial leg for 45 years. She lived in a two-story house and went up and down stairs on this leg many times. She was always a very cheerful person.
In later life, on warm nights, the house was cooled only by palm fan. Burro at night would say "eyee-haw" and she would say, "do you hear the nightingale?".
