"My father during those earliest years (in Texas) lived on Mill Creek in Austin County which was only a few miles from Union Hill and near the town of Industry. These comprised one large settlement of as good Christian people as ever lived--Such as my father; Jack Bell, Abner Kuykendall; these being bros in law to my father--Fordtran, Babbitt, Hall, and others. My father's wife (Miss Duff) dies in about 1845 and he in 1847 married Mary Ann Mealor, who was my mother."
"My father and mother in 1849 moved from the old Union Hill - Industry - Mill Creek - neighborhood to a point 5 miles east of Fayetteville on the Austin, Bastrop, LaGrange and Houston Public Road 80 miles from Houston, and improved a farm - Built a large dwelling in which I was born, Dec 28th 1850."
