Letter written in pencil on lined paper. Cleburne, Texas Aug 14, 1895 My dear Minnie, It is now the middle of August and we have been looking for you and Bates ever since Rowena came home. I feel now that the time has passed and it will be impossi for me to come to Austin this summer, and I must see Bates before he goes off again, so that you and he must come by and make us a visit on his way to school. I intended going down to Austin this summer but have not been well as usual. Rowena's children have had the whooping cough and it was very hard on her and she is looking thinner than I ever saw her and complains a great deal of not feeling well. Myrtle Chism (Rowena's roommate) has been with us three week -- left last Saturday. Rowena spend five weeks in Paris, and she came home with her. She is a very smart sweet girl. We all like her very much. We are having some very warm weather - needing rain. Write just as soon as you get this and tell us when you will be here. We have had no letters from any of the kinfolkes lately. All send love to you, Clem, and Bates. Write soon to your affectionate mother, Mary J. Hill.
