Just starting out on this Family Project. It is home based in California, but the researchers are also in Ohio! We are researching the following Family Surnames: Wasyl Kurch B: 1-10-1889 aka: Basiliict Kurcz aka: Wasyl Kurcz Maryanna Husak B: 1895 Ed Kosicky Mork Spontelli Kolinsky Sonich
We are setting geneology speed records with this process!
Wasyl Kurch (Basiliict Kurcz) arrived in the USA July 10, 1912 aboard the SS President Linclon. (Information located 5-15-99) He was born in Bilycz, Ukraine on January 10, 1889. Mother was Anna Kurch and his fathers name is still unknown. He had 2 or 3 brothers but never spoke of their names. It is the possibility of living relatives in the Ukraine that we are conducting this research.
Maryanna Husak (Mary Husak) arrived in the USA June 10, 1912 aboard the SS Lapland. Born 1895 in Bilycz, Ukraine. Her Mother was Anna Koliba and father was Frank Hussak. She had 5 siblings. Two of them came to the US and stayed with the family in Cleveland, Ohio. The other 3 children, 2 sisters, unknown names and location, and 1 brother, Daniel Husak, went to France.
Both Wasyl and Mary came into the US through Ellis Island.
Wasyl and Mary were born in Bilycz-Staryy Sambir, Galicia, which then was also Poland and currently the village still exists, but now is part of the Ukraine.
Wasyl and Mary married in Cleveland and had 3 daughters. Anna, Esther, and Helen. They were also a proud group of the Founding Families of St. Vladimir's Unkrainian Orthodox Church. Anna is my Grandmother, whom this page is dedicated to! HI GRANDMA!! aka: Anne Kosicky (She changed her first name to Anne in high school)
With the help of the Cleveland Ukrainian Archives we were put in touch with a wonderful man, Arthur Taxier. He has and still is researching the orginal families from Bilycz. With his gracious assistance he has provided us with vital documents that may have taken us years to find, as it did him! Thank You Arthur!
The story continues on from here...down the line to me. Currently we are trying to fill in the blanks between Cleveland, Ohio and back to the homeland of the Ukraine.
I am now searching out the Passenger Manifests for my Great Grandparents, Wasyl and Mary. I have the information required to obtain the exact manifests, and we are interested to see who was traveling with them.
All for tonight, I am tired....(Updated May 16, 1999)
