Welcome to my Clemons and Gore family-tree home-page. I am new to the web-page idea so I am sure that I will be updating this sight on a regular basis. The information that comes after the 1870 time-frame I pretty much have documented, but there is much information that falls prior to that date that I have not had the time yet to properly document. I believe that the information is accurate or I wouldn't have listed it, but until every detail is documented, it is just helpful information to continue my research. So, please don't add it to your family-tree as a fact until you have documented it yourself. If you find any errors or additions I would love to hear from you. My favorite part of doing family-tree research is meeting new people and making new connections.

The Gore and the Clemons families were both here in Florida in the 1870 census. The William "Bill" Gore family was living on the Ten Mile Creek in St. Lucie County, Fl. and it is there they bore nine children. I have a great story that was written by one of their children, Cassie Gore Clemons, that tells of life in the Florida wilderness in the late 1870's. I would be glad to share this with any who would be interested. The Gore family later moved to Sebastian and then to Wabasso, both in Indian River County, FL. William Gore is the eldest son of Daniel Lennon and Annie (Jenright) Gore from Brunswick, NC. Daniel and Annie later moved to St. Augustine, Fl. where they bore their last two children, Kinney and John. Daniel Gore served in the Seminole Wars in Florida and was believed to have been killed by bushwackers in St Augustine. One story tells that it was about wanting to take his land and one story tells it was because he was caught stealing hogs and was shot in the act. Who will ever know?
Joseph Clemons shows up in Orange County, Florida in the 1870 Census. I believe he is listed twice: once with a Peter Clemons, just one year the younger, and the second time with his new wife Jane Bronson and a son, Will. There is a listing of a Joseph, Peter, Jane and a mother named Rebecca Clements from South Carolina living in Lake City, Florida in the 1860 Census. They were not able to read or write so the spelling of the name might vary. I believe they might be the right family but have never been able to prove it. Joseph and Jane Clemons divorced in 1875 and married again in 1876, then divorced again in 1881. To top things off, Jane was charged with and went to trial for 1st degree murder in the shooting of her ex-husband (10-6-1894), Joseph Clemons in the spring of 1895. So, our family history continues.
