The George Windsor Clendenans of Toronto, Ontario, CanadaUpdated May 16, 2001 |

| For the past year we have been doing some serious research on the Clendenan family. It started with the extensive files of the West Toronto Junction Historical Society. They often refer to my grandfather, Dr. George Washington Clendenan, who was mayor of the town of West Toronto for three years, - 1896, 1897 and 1898. His first cousin, Daniel Webster Clendenan, was the founding mayor in 1889. Both men had originally come from a loyalist family which was located in Jordan, Ontario. We have traced the direct line back to James Clendenan (sometimes spelled Clendenen or Clendenning) who came from Sussex, New Jersey, around 1783. At the moment we are trying to connect James with an Archibald Clendenin who came from Ireland in 1719 and settled in the Londonderry, New Hampshire area. |
