I am researching the Mallory, Straughn, Strachan, Barrow and Cauley families of Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina and Virginia as well as Scotland, Ireland and Barbados.

The oldest Mallory that I can find is William Anderson Mallory, believed to have died before 1880. He was said to have been an apprentice to a blacksmith in either Ireland or England and ran away to America as a stow away on a ship, when he realized his master was not going to allow him to become a full blacksmith. He was discovered on the ship and when it arrived it is said that a Mr. Chestnut paid his debt and he became an indentured servent and quickly proved to be a valuable asset to the Chestnut holdings and eventually married one Julie Ann Chestnut the daughter of the man who had paid his endediness. His father was said to be Stephen H. Mallory and his mother was Mary May Bowles. I do not have any information on either of them.

I would welcome any information or conversations on this Mallory family, as well as the Straughn, Barrow and Cauley families.
