Clifton’s in my family, as far back as I can go for now. William has created a stumbling block.
William Clifton married Martha House and they had two sons,:
Claude Presker Clifton Born 5/1/1877 Died 1/1/1913 in Portales, NM. John William Clifton Born 11/16/1881 in Troy Missouri. Died 3/27/1945 in the Veterans Hospital in Dallas Texas.
William was a piano salesman and one day he left to do what piano salesmen do and never came back. No one knows what happened to him and we do not know if Martha remarried. This is as far back as I can go with the Cliftons until I can find out who William's parents were.
Claude Presker married Fee Wickliffe Born May 07, 1884 in Benton County Missouri. They homesteaded land in a community called Lykins,Roosevelt Co., New Mexico in the early 1900’s. Lykins was about 30 miles west of Portales, NM. They had 4 children. Claude was working in Socorro, NM. as a laborer in a mine. He was killed one evening by two unknown assailants. Shortly there after my Grandmother, Fee, married his brother John William. John was the Postmaster in Lykins, NM. at the time. They sold out and moved to Big Cabin, Oklahoma where they farmed for a while. They had 4 children and that is where my father, Claude Elmer Clifton was born. A few years later they moved to Bulcher, Texas to work
in the oil fields.
John served in the Spanish-American War, the Philippine Insurrection and World War I. John used his Brothers birth date of 1877 to inlist in the Army the first time.
My father is still living in Mesa, AZ. in a retirement community. Plays golf every day at 81 years old. I live in Flagstaff, AZ. learning how to hit a golf ball as far as my dad.
If anyone can add to what I have so far please let me know.
