Researching CLINES/CLINE

Levi W. CLINES b. March 1845 in Indiana per 1900 Census of Crooked Creek Township, Jasper County, Illinois. Per census his parents (unknown) were born in Kentucky. His first wife was Terra VAN METER. They lived in Indiana--possibly around Frankfort or Terre Haute had 5 children: William Henry b. March 23, 1876; John b. February 1875; Ella, Phoebe b. 1876; and Dora.

On January 8, 1881, Levi "Lee" CLINES married Edith "Lucinda/Cinda" L. TURNER in Jasper County,Illinois. Lucinda was born in June 1862 in Illinois to Christopher Price Turner and Arminda Cummins Turner. Levi and Lucinda lived in Jasper Co., Illinois around Hunt City and Rosehill and both appear in the 1900 census of Crooked Creek Township along with children: John (from Levi's first marriage), b. Feb. 1875; Charles Lewis b. January 1886; Christopher Columbus b. April 1888; James A. b. September 1890; and Anna b. April 1895. They had two children who were deceased before the 1900 census: Jefferson and Minnie. They had two more children born after the 1900 census: George Henry b. May 9, 1900 and Mary Jane b. March 16, 1905. Lucinda died on March 15, 1906, in Hunt Twp., Jasper Co., Illinois. In the 1910 census Levi W. Clines appears along with two sons James A. and George H. After Lucinda's death the family was split up and were either on their own or living with relatives. Levi spent time in his later years between Indiana and Illinois and died on May 7, 1925, in Casey, Clark Co., Illinois.

Levi W. CLINES is my husband's (Michael I. CLINE) great grandfather. Mu husband's grandfather was Levi's son, Christopher Columbus CLINES/ClINE. Christopher married Viola Mae DOKKEN in Ward Co., North Dakota in 1912. They had two children, Leona and Mearl. My husband's father is Mearl Irvin CLINE who is still living. It is believed through family reports that Levi CLINE was part Cherokee Indian. He was a farmer and played a fiddle.


Edith "Lucinda/Cinda" L. TURNER was the daughter of Christopher Price TURNER b. 1839 and d. 1902 in Illinois and Arminda CUMMINS b. 1842 and d. 1892 in Illinois. The Turners were married in 1857. Christopher's parents were George and Elsey TURNER who were born in Kentucky. Arminda's parents were James CUMMINS b. 1833 d. 1909 and Nancy Rebecca CURNUTT b. 1835 d. 1927. C. Price TURNER served in the Civil War Company D 97th Illinois Infantry and was honorably discharged on July 29, 1865.



Researching WOODS/BURNS


Carl Marinus BRUUN/BRAUN/BROWN b. 1873 and d. July 3, 1925, in Minot, Ward Co., North Dakota, USA was my great grandfather. My grandmother, Carl's daughter, was Sjolvor "Chjoldvor" BRUUN. Chjoldvor's mother, was Marta Katinka BERNTSEN. Marta and Carl never married. Carl was from Denmark and Marta was from Norway. Sometime shortly following Chjoldvor's birth in September 1896 in Tjolling, Norway, Carl BRUUN returned to Denmark and in May 1897 married and had twin daughters that were born in January of 1898.
