Our family came to the Cape of Good Hope (now South Africa) with the first Dutch settlers in 1652. The surname was then written as Cloeten and was probably of German extraction. Since then we have droped the "n" and have inter married with the succesive waves of settlers. My main interest is tracing the following family lines:- Cloete - South African, I have data back to 1600s
Hall - WelshSouth African,I have data bach to 1500s
Clayton - EnglishSouth African,I have data back to 1800s
Eade - CanadianSouth African,I have data back to 1800s
Menzies - ScotsCanadian, limited data 17001800
Stuart - Scots Royal Line,I have only one name Jessie
b. abt 1748 Married Robert Menzies
