The Pennsylvania Archives Historical Records, Series 9, Vol. 10, Chapter: Executive Minutes of Governor Joseph Ritner 1835-1838, Page 8291, Page mentions several appointments made by Gov. Ritner on Friday, July 15, 1836. The last one made on that day reads as follows: "Thomas Coates of the said County of Philadelphia, to be Clerk of the said Recorders Court."
Not sure if the Thomas Coates mentioned is Thomas Coats Jr., (or possibly his son Thomas Coats III - who would have been about 17 in 1836), but due to the same type of job descriptions of Thomas Coats Jr. (who is known to have been a Philadelphia City Scrivner, Justice of the Peace, & Alderman), it's very probable that this could be either Thomas Coats Jr. or III.

Pennsylvania Division of Vital Records Death Certificate of Mary Ann (Sanford) Funston - File No. 19533, Registered No. 5159, The death certificate of Mary Ann (Sanford) Funston shows her mother's maiden name as Mary Lindsay. This shows a slight difference from the very faded death certificate of William Henry Harrison Coats (half-brother of Mary (Sanford) Funston), which shows his mother's maiden name as Mary P. Linslay.

United States National Archives - War of 1812 Pension File of Thomas Coats, file numbers: Widow's Orig.# 14505, Widow's Ctf.# 23092, Shown as Mary P. Coats, widow of Thomas Coats. On the same document page her maiden name is also shown as "Mary L. Sanford", incorrectly in reference to her 1st marriage to Richard Sanford Sr., with the "L" standing for her true maiden name of Lindsay. In the pension file, Sanford is repeatedly incorrectly shown as her maiden name and Lindsay is never mentioned, despite all of the evidence to the contrary.

44.
Marriage certificate of Thomas Coats and Mary P. Lindsay, Remarried (in a civil law ceremony - they were 1st married in 1842 in a Quaker ceremony) in Philadelphia, Pa, on June 26, 1851 by Joseph Mason, Minister of the Gospel. Names shown as Thomas Coats & Mary L. Sanford. For some reason (possibly not divorced?) Mary P.'s last name is shown as Sanford instead of her maiden name of Lindsay. It seems as though the incorrect middle initial "L." stands for her maiden name of Lindsay.

Newspaper - The North Adams Transcript (MA) 06-08-1899, The newpaper article states:
"Mrs. Mary P. Coats of Philadelphia celebrated her one hundred and second birthday a few days ago. Her family was represented in every war from that of the Revolution to the civil war, and it was a great source of grief to her that her sons were too old to enlist in the Spanish war."

IGI Individual Record FamilySearch International Genealogical Index v5.0 North America, IGI Individual Record shows extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record - Batch No.: M725763, Dates: 1792 - 1841, Source Call No.: 1312258. Marriage record of Hugh Lindsay (spelled as Lindsey) & Elizabeth Potts shows the marriage date of 03 JUL 1798 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Record does not match the date shown in several newspaper articles referring to their daughter Mary P. Lindsay's birth date as being in early June 1797, as they would have been married after her birth. Since this is an official record, her birth year was most likely incorrect in the articles.
49.
Newspaper - The Gettysburg Compiler (PA) 06-27-1899, Funeral 06/23/1899.
