Notes for JOHN M. MAINER: John Mainer enlisted in Company I, 34th Arkansas Infantry Regiment(Confederate) on July 2, 1862. John appears on Muster rolls from July 2, 1862 until he is found on a roll of prisoners of war at Little Rock Military Prison. He was captured June 8th, 1864 in Franklin Co. He was held for a time at Fort Smith before he was transferred to Little Rock Military Prison. He died in prison (probably on March2, 1865). Notes for WILLIAM MAINER: William enlisted on Feb. 8, 1862 in Company I, 15th (Northwest) Arkansas Infantry (Confederate) in Ozark. He enlisted for 12 months. Unlike his brothers, he served his stint in the army outside the boundaries of his home state. His regiment was part of Gen. Pemberton's small Army of Mississippi. He served for 1 1/2 years, until the surrender of Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. He signed his parole papers and was released.
