      8. Elijah Cobb, born April 05, 1829 in Abbeville County, South Carolina; died November 08, 1877 in Calhoun County, Alabama. He was the son of 16. Nathaniel Cobb and 17. Luranah Teague. He married 9. Mary Susan Hall August 26, 1849 in Calhoun County, Alabama.

      9. Mary Susan Hall, born November 29, 1832 in Alabama; died January 01, 1868 in Calhoun County, Alabama. She was the daughter of 18. John Hall and 19. Lucinda.

Notes for Elijah Cobb:
Elijah was born in Georgia and moved to Alabama, where he resided until his death in 1878, being accidentally shot. In 1862 he enlisted for service in the Confederate army, in a town named Fairplay, Alabama (There is no such place now) becoming a member of the Forty-fourth Alabama Infantry. He was shot through the abdomen and arm, and remained for some time in a Baltimore hospital. He recovered, reentered the service and was present at Lee's surrender. (Another story says he was wounded and at the battle of Richmond was captured and imprisoned in Maryland.)

Another account states that he served in the Alabama Confederate Army 44th Infantry Regiment, Company K. Wounded at Sharpsburg.

Elijah was a farmer, a Democrat and a Baptist.

"Robert L. Cobb - This gentleman is one of the prosperous farmers of Falls County, Texas, and both socially and financially is ranked with the best citizens of this community.
Robert L. Cobb resided with his parents till he was seventeen years of age. In 1872 he came to Texas and located in Falls County. He subsequently went to Dallas County and remained there two years, then was one year in Alabama, and finally returned to Falls County and located on his present place in 1884, and here he has since resided.
Beginning life for himself at the age of seventeen, a poor boy, he has without assistance worked his way along, and by dint of his own industry and good management risen to his present position of wealth and influence. His fine farm comprises 524 acres of land, 145 acres of which are under cultivation, and he has 95 head of horses and cattle. In politics he is a Democrat. He and his wife are both members of the Christian Church."

From the Beeville Bee, January 23, 1895

" The remains of Mrs. Martha S. Gillett, nee Bowles, relict of Rev. Roswell Gillett, one of the pioneer ministers of the Methodist Church in Texas, were brought to Beeville Wednesday evening and rested in the Methodist Church until yesterday when they were interred in the cemetary beside the body of her husband who died about fifteen years ago. Mrs. Gillett died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Milam Gill, at Blanco County on the 22nd. She was a native of Kentucky, but her father moved to Missouri shortly after the Lousiana Purchase. Her father was one of the colonists who came to Texas from Missouri in 1827. He settled on what was known as Bailey's Prairie near the mouth of the Brazos River. Mrs. Gillett moved to Bee County in 1867 where her husband died in 1881. She was the mother of 11 children, nine of whom survive her and are among the most highly respected citizens of Bee and contiguous counties."
