My name is Douglas Cochrane and I am currently studying to become a Certified Genealogist through the Genealogical Institute of the Maritimes and to improve my research skills and obtain accreditation through the National Institute for Genealogical Studies which is a school of the University of Toronto. I am researching the COCHRANE family formerly of Marysville, York County, New Brunswick and their descendants. The Cochrane’s originated from Antrim, Antrim County, Ireland and immigrated to New Brunswick in 1817. Their descendants can be found in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario and British Columbia, Canada. They can also be found in Connecticut, Massachusetts and at one time Maine and Oregon, USA. Cochran(e)- Antrim, Ireland and New Brunswick; Pond U.E.L. - New Brunswick and formerly New Jersey, USA. I am also researching the COOPER family and their descendants of Sarnia, Lambton Co., Ontario, formerly of England. The Coopers originated from Halstead, Essex, England and left Wandsworth, Surrey, England to come to Canada just before World War I and settled in Sarnia, Ontario. Their descendants can be found in Ontario, Nova Scotia and Alberta, Canada. They can also be found in Michigan, USA. John Hendon Samuel COOPER married Emily Olive Rose KELCH (my grandparents) and their children married into the BELL, BALEY, COCHRANE and ROBINSON families of Sarnia. COOPER - Halstead, Essex - Battersea, London - Mitcham, Croydon, England; FRIDAY - Northfleet, Kent, England. KELCH - Germany - New York - Michigan - Sarnia, ON. The Kelches fought in the Revolutionary War and also in the American Civil war on the Union side. On my wife’s side of the family I am researching the GALBRAITHS of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, formerly of County Louth on the River Boyne, Ireland, however research is leading me to believe the family was most likley from Scotland. Their descendants can be found in Nova Scotia and Ontario, Canada. I am also researching the BRAINES of Queen's Co. NS and the LEONARDS of Ireland, England and Queen's Co. NS. GALBRAITH/BOSWELL and FERGUSON (PEI); CAMERON - St. Peter's, NS; HARRINGTON - Halifax NS. BRAINE - Queen's Co., NS and Hove, Sussex England; LEONARD - Co. Cavan, Ireland and Hove, England as well as the descendants of "the" MICHAEL COLLINS, a direct relation of the family.
