We are currently researching the McKelvey Family originally of Sparta, IL, as well as Coffman, Gulick (and related such as Von Gulick{e}),Kelly, Rookstool.Regions include Sparta, Il; Going Snake Indian Territory, (Ruby & Nowata)OK, CO., Idaho

The McKelvey Family Tree which we are concentrating on at this time began in 1795 with the emmigration of James and Margaret McKelvey from Ballymena Co., Anrtrim, Ireland. They and their children eventually ended up settling in Sparta, IL where many of their descendants reside to this day. Our branch springs from their son, Hugh McKelvey, and and his wife Sarah Aiken. We have information on many of the succeeding generations until 1930.

There has been much difficulty in the Research of the Coffman genealogy due to the amount of Native American Intermarriages. Often there are multiple names for single individuals that are wildly different (ie: John Stuart, aka John Bushyhead, aka Bushyhead oo no dutie). Related Surnames we are concentrating on at this time are Sixkiller, Bushyhead, Stuart, Woods, Mullins, and Barnett.

Below, in the "Reports" section of this page, is a link to Family Tree Maker's Java-enabled Family InterneTree page. Clicking this link will display an interactive family tree for the names we are researching. It is by no means complete, and I'm quite sure we have errors, but then who doesn't! It's somewhat slow, but worth the wait. It tends to open on Barbara J. McKelvey and Lester Gonzales. Click on Barbara and the tree will open up in both directions.

There are about 900 names in all listed here, though we have much more. I hope that this helps some of you out there, and if you come across anything that may help us in our search, please send it along.

Thanks and good luck in your search,

Barton D. Coffman
