From a newspaper clipping out of the Canton Times, dated October 16, 1980, sent to me by Tim Coffey, a great grandson of George and Elizabeth Coffey. We met over the internet and exchanged information.:
George W. Coffey was born in 1862, died 1918 in a car accident in New Mexico. He married Elizabeth Lewis in North Carolina. He and his family left North Carolina, moving to Texas where they lived for a short time.
Around 1892 they moved on to Oklahoma, homesteading on a claim northwest of Hennessey where they lived in a sod house. Around 1905, the family moved to the Canton area and built a home on the land now owned by Mrs. Jim Coffey.
