The will of Edward Coffey is in the Essex Co., VA Deed & Will book 14 1711-1716, dated 14 Feb 1715-16 & provided for bequests to wife Ann Coffey: to my six children; to John & Edward the land; to Martha one cow; to Ann, Austos(?), & Elizabeth (all surnames spelled Cofey) no bequests. Abraham Stapp was a witness & the will was signed Edward Coffey.
Copy of Last Will & Testament is also in Johnson/Stapp and Allied Lines, by Jennie F. Downing Crow, pg 55.

The first record of Edward Coffey in VA appears in the will of Edward Mosely, dated 1-6-1699, in which he gives to his "servant Ed. Coffe one heifer of 2 yrs. old." On 9-10-1700, Edward Coffey received a judgement from the Mosely estate for his freedom, corn, & clothes. Edward Coffey was probably transported to America during the Williamite Confiscation by Edward Mosely. Edward Coffey is a witness to Thomas Powell's will of Sittingbourne Parish, Essex Co., Va. in which Thomas bequeathed 1 shilling to his daughter Ann Coffey.

Virginia Colonial Abstracts; Vol 9; Essex County - Wills and Deeds, 1714-1717; pp. 3, 79, 88, 91 page 311. Lease and Release. 10 and 11 Nov. 1714. Edward Coffey of St. Ann's parish, planter, sells John Barbee of Sam par., for 5000 lbs of "Lawful sweet scent Tobacco", 118 acres, which land Coffey bought of Augustine Smith, and is on brances of Occupation Creek, adj. land of Thomas Warren, on E. side of Chickahomony Path, the land of Coll. Francis Gouldman "to a corner red oake and white oake corner to Mr. Beverly his Great Tract", etc. Wit: Tho. Ramsey, Saml. Stallord Signed Edward (X) Coffey Robert Parker Rec. 11 Nov. 1714------------------------- page 621. Deed. 16 July 1716. John Mosley, planter, of St. Ann's parish, sells John Coffee and Edward Coffee, planters, of sam par., for 8000 lb. tobo., 300 acres commoly called Moseleys Quarters, in St. A. Par., on E. side of a branch of Occupation, a small branch of Gilsons, adj. land belonging to Mr. Matrum Wright and land formerly belonging to Tho. Button. Wit: Salvator Muscoe.
