NOTE ADDED SEPTEMBER 1, 2007 IN RESPONSE TO THE UNAUTHORIZED USE AND POSTING OF MY FAMILY TREE:
I have been involved in genealogical research for over 40 years, creating and maintaining an extended family tree for all branches of my families as well as for many of the families which are laterally connected by having married into one of my own. As stated in the original introduction to this family tree page, written several years ago, the online index is limited due to considerations of privacy and security. The main database which I maintain contains a great deal more information. Though time and resources have prevented me from updating the online index which you find on this web site, I continue to maintain, research, update and correct the main family tree database with the assistance and input of literally hundreds of cousins - and those I fondly refer to as 'almost cousins' - around the world. This wonderful extended family tree now contains information on over 17,000 individuals. My work on this family tree has been what can best be described as a glorious adventure, bringing me in contact with incredible people across the globe. I have found my work on the family tree tremendously interesting and rewarding. This massive undertaking has, as you might imagine, involved untold hours of painstaking work over the last four decades, along with a considerable financial investment that went towards travel, photographs, photocopies, telephone calls, postage, etc. In the course of my work, I have freely shared the fruits of my labors with countless individuals who have requested information on their families. In many cases, I have provided people with their previously-unknown family histories and generations of their family trees, looking both forwards and backwards. In other cases, I have been able to help people reconnect with long-lost relatives. Again, it has been an amazing and wonderful journey. The only thing I have ever asked in return from the people with whom I share my work has been to keep this promise: Use it ONLY for family purposes. I always expressly asked anyone with whom I share family information that they maintain the confidentiality of those who have so freely shared their information with me and NOT publish in any format, nor post anywhere online, any information obtained from me or as a result of my many years of hard work. It is for that reason that I am profoundly dismayed and angry to learn that one or more individuals have taken what is to me a lifetime's work and posted a good deal of it on the Internet. In addition to having ignored the single stipulation which I have ever placed on the sharing of my work, whoever is responsible for this has violated not just my trust and goodwill, but the privacy of the hundreds of individuals who so willingly and graciously shared their family information with me. Taking my years of work and posting it, without my knowledge, permission or consent, on the Internet and, worse, without any attribution, amounts to theft. Whoever did this should be ashamed of themselves. You have broken the bond of trust which has allowed this remarkable extended family tree to be as successful an ongoing project as it has been for so long, and you have robbed me of the acknowledgement I deserve for my years of work. To whoever is responsible for this despicable act, you are obviously without conscience and without character. The damage which you have done to this project is incalculable in that it will negatively impact the way information is shared - not only by those who contribute to the family tree - but by me in my response to those who request information in the future. To those who have found their privacy violated by the posting of their personal information, I apologize. I assure you that this breech of trust was totally outside of my knowledge and control. I cannot adequately express the depth of my sorrow and rage that someone would have done this.
