Notes for G'R'Mordeh'aï (Ha'MarBitz) Berdugo: S. 3 - "The Sephardic Connection" Site Internet de D.Loeb Chief Rabbi Mordekhai Berdugo Ha-Tsadik (born 1715 (or 1717?), died 1763 (or 1762?)) was known by Moroccan rabbis as Rav "Hamarbitz" (acronym and play on words meaning "rabbi who hits/teaches" (also known as Muito famoso, com a honra de Deus sobre ele, Homem de Deus, Santo ele, Luz de Israel, Candelabro Sagrado, and Mordecai le saint). Hamarbitz was the grand-nephew, pupil and son-in-law of R'Moses ben Abraham and a noted dayyan (after 1748) in Meknes. He was member of the rabbinical tribunal (Chief Rabbi according to Portugese archives) from 1753 to 1773. He wrote many works (including "Responsa" and a commentary on the proverbs "Mishne la melech", of which, however, only Perashat Mordekhai, a commentary on the bible, has been published (1948); others are still existant in manuscript. Mordekhai (b. around 1679, d. 1730) , married the daughter of his cousin Moché Berdugo (Ha Machbir). Mordekahai had four sons: · Rabbi Yikutiel Berdugo (1742-1802) (founder of branch Gimel or C) ; · Yossef Berdugo (missing from handdrawn tree) ; · (the angel) Rabbi Raphael Berdugo (1747-1821) (founder of branch Beth or B); · Chief Rabbi Maimon Berdugo (missing from handdrawn tree). Hamarbitz était le petit- neveu, disciple et gendre de R'Moshé (Ha-Mashbir) ben Abraham et un distingué dayyan (après 1748) à Meknes. Source5 - La Saga des familles _Joseph Toledano MORDECHAI BERGUDO - (1715-1763) Dit Harav Hamarbitz ou encore Mordechaï Hatsadik, le Saint. En son temps. il fut plus célèbre que son frère aîné R'Yéhouda"Maïm 'Amakim". Disciple et gendre de Rabbi Moché. il fut membre du Tribunal Rabbinique de 1753 à sa mort. Auteur de nombreux ouvrages dont un livre de "Questions et Réponses" ainsi qu'un commentaire sur les Proverbes "Michnè la Melech" (encore manuscrits) et de "Perashat Mordechai". commentaire sur le Pentateuque, publié en 1948. Son fils fut encore plus célèbre.

S.22- Toli Toledano (S. Malkhé Rabbanan) R' Mordékhaï Berdugo ,né a Meknès en 1705 et y est décédé un 14 Av ou 3/8/1762; il a épousé la fille aïnée du Mashbir. R'David Hassine (poète)(son gendre)a écrit lors de sa simha "Yédid hael véohabo" et une "kina"(complainte) lors de son décès "Péné vé'od Yom".Il a été nommé Dayyan a Meknès depuis 1742 (pendant près de 20 ans).Il a siègé avec R'Yaacov Toledano (Ha-Mahrit) et son frère R'Hayyim Toledano (Ha_maharhat).Il était le plus jeune parmi eux. Décédé le 14 Av 1762 ou 3 aoüt 1762.
