Stacy COLLINS and Sarah ANDERSON Collins were pioneers as surely as there ever was one. Born in SC, Stacy moved to GA and married Sarah in about 1808. They eventually moved to Mississippi and finally, Texas, where they died. Their graves can be located today, in a pasture beneath a majestic tree, as isolated as they were when they first made their journey. In between, they left a legacy of fourteen children and countless descendants.

We still do not know who Stacy's parents were, and while there is good evidence as to who the brothers and sister were, much information is missing. The fruits of this search, to me, are the wonderful relatives I have met. These are people who have lived rich and full lives, and have been kind enough to share those memories. I will forever cherish those I have met through this effort.

I ask that you please contact me if you have conflicting information or are able to provide validating documentation.

The information I have been hoping to find on Salem Church that Stacy may have been a member of prior to joining Zion Baptist is not available. I was told that this info was being bound for preservation. Now it seems that this was not true and the info is simply not available.

THE BIG NEWS (from July 2000, but its still big!)
Stacy Collins Bible, from which the data regarding Stacy and Sarah's children comes from, has been located in the Jones County Library in Laurel, Mississippi! Roy Hammond located the bible there and brought it to the attention of B.T. Collins who put it in my hands for a brief but exciting time! It was rebound by Carr P. Collins, Jr. but is still very fragile. It was a real experience to hold a book nearly 200 years old!

Current Research Efforts:
o Trying to get copies of the complete records of Stone Creek Baptist Church, Twiggs County, GA, from its founding in 1808 through about 1814. - Annamarie Hyde was kind enough to provide copies of some information she found in HISTORY OF STONE CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH OF TWIGGS COUNTY GA by Eleanor Davis McSwain, 1959

o Looking for records of sale of land by Christopher Collins circa 1804, witnessed by Stacy. Want to be able to identify relationship between these two. Finding the record where Christopher Collins acquired the land might be insightful.

o There are numerous researchers of the Collins line, and except for the individual passing of information back and forth, there is little effort at cataloging what we have found in our research. I would like to find a forum to share that information. To that end, I want to add an INDEX document to this home page that will disclose my own findings, and then encourage others to do the same. This is a work in progress.

This is the "hill" described in accounts of Stacy Collins' burial. The large tree in the center of the field towers over the graves of Stacy, Sarah, Edwin and Josiah Hendrix. Brush covers the markers thoroughly from the other side where the road runs. It was very exciting to locate this site!
