Day, Arthur C. Daily Independent, Maysville, Ky. Dec. 12, 1953

One whose friends regarded his word as good as his bond. Mr. Day stood out for personal integrity. His manner was quiet but his nature was cordial and his friends were in multiple numbers. At the passing of this highly esteemed citizen, all every having been associated with him will be saddened.

Pollitt, Dr. C. C. Unknown Paper, Maysville, Ky. Fri., July 15, 1955

"Dr. C. C. Pollitt, Mason Native, Dies —

"A graduate of the Cincinnati Dental College, Dr. Pollitt moved to Erie shortly after his graduation and had lived there ever since. His wife, the former Lillie Strick, of Erie, died long ago.

"The deceased was a native of the Orangeburg community and a son of the late Robert H. and Anna Howard Pollitt.

"Maysville friends, remembering his kind and gentle personality and his charitable nature, will learn of his death with sadness.

"Dr. Pollitt, who periodically visited in Maysville until recent years, was a Knights Templar and a Shriner and was prominently identified with the Masonic bodies.

"Besides his sisters here, survivors include a son, Dr. Robert Pollitt, an Erie dentist, and a daughter, Miss Ann Howard Pollitt, both residing at home. Dr. C. L. Pollitt, well known dentist of Aberdeen, and Milton Russell, Texas Company distributor here, are nephews of the deceased.

The clipping identifies the deceased as "Claude C. Pollitt," but a handwritten correction indicates the correct name is as shown above — this would make sense, as there is another "Claude" sibling in this family. The handwritten date on the clipping is "Fri., July 15, 1955."

Seddon, Mrs. George Public Ledger, Maysville, Ky. Oct. 15, 1963

"Mrs. George Seddon Taken By Death —

"Funeral Thursday —

"Mrs. Phebe Kennan Seddon, 75, one of the Maysville community’s finest women, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Hayswood Hospital. She was the wife of George E. Seddon, prominent retired dairy farmer.

"Mrs. Seddon, long ill from the effects of recurrent strokes during the past year, had been removed to the hospital last Friday from her residence, 15 West Third Street.

"She and Mr. Seddon had lived at that address since 1946, moving into town from their Stone Lick Road farm home. However, it was not until a year ago last March that they disposed of their four-tract landholdings in the Orangeburg vicinity.

"Mrs. Seddon, a devoted wife during more than a half-century of marriage and a paragon of motherhood, was also a loyal friend whose compassionate nature manifested itself in multifold ways. An insight into her spiritual character was given nine years ago next month when she won an automobile in a supermarket drawing. Her first words were, ‘Praise the Lord. I’ll drive it and visit the sick.’ The sick, the infirm, all less fortunate than she enlisted her deep concern. And Mrs. Seddon was not one of those persons who stop at the threshold of good intentions. Her sympathies unfailingly took the form of action until ill health forced curtailment and later, relinquishment of deeds inspired by inborn goodness.

"Until her vigor became impaired, Mrs. Seddon was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church. For several years she served as president of the Trinity Women’s Bible Class there and also as a member of the commission on Education.

"Mrs. Seddon was a charter member of the first Homemakers club organized in Mason County. It was the club at Orangeburg. In this phase of activity as in all other phases, she gave effective leadership, while at the same time exerting, although unknowingly, a noble influence upon those associated with her in club and church work.

"A life-time Mason Countian, the deceased was born December 17, 1887. She was the last survivor of seven children of the late Charles M. and Phebe Coryell Kennan, members of old and representative families of the eastern sector of the county.

"Her marriage to Mr. Seddon, son of a Methodist minister to whom tribute is paid in the name borne by a Maysville church, took place on February 16, 1911. They were married in Covington by the late Rev. George W. Bunton.

"Survivors besides her husband, now 84 years old, are three daughters, Mrs. Carwin Ryan, of the Old Halfhill Road, Mrs. William Hord, The Highlands, Mt. Carmel Road, and Mrs. Howard Atherton, of the Dixon Pike; a step-daughter, Mrs. Hobart Pollitt, Stone Lick Road, and a step-son, George Edward Seddon Jr., Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving are 11 devoted grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters predeceased her.

"Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Porter and Clay Funeral Home by Rev. C. L. Cooper, pastor of Trinity Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Maysville Cemetery."

"It was in the Orangeburg church that Mr. Pollitt married the former Ola Bullock more than 62 years ago — the date was December 28, 1904. They became the parents of five children, four of whom lived to see Mrs. Pollitt named the Orangeburg Homemakers Club’s "Mother of the Year" in 1951.

"Mrs. Oscar Pollitt Dies Two Months After Husband —

"Only two months after widowhood, Mrs. Ola Maude Bullock Pollitt, 83, of Orangeburg, wife of the late Oscar Pollitt, died at 12:20 a.m. Friday at Fleming County Hospital. She had been a patient there since Sunday and her death was attributed to complications.

"Mrs. Pollitt, whose husband died February 4, suffered primarily from a coronary condition.

"An avid reader and sparkling conversationalist, Mrs. Pollitt often was called upon for book reviews and she never failed to delight the club memberships before which she spoke.

"One whose quiet dignity and poise set her apart for especial esteem, Mrs. Pollitt will be sadly missed by a multitude of friends.

"A member of the Orangeburg Christian Church, where she and her husband exchanged marriage vows over 62 years ago — on December 28, 1904 — Mrs. Pollitt taught the Women’s Class there for a number of years. Her vast knowledge of the Bible made her a most competent and inspiring teacher.

"In March 1951, Mrs. Pollitt was signally and deservedly honored when the Orangeburg Homemakers Club selected her as "Mother of the Year."

"Prior to her marriage and for a time thereafter, Mrs. Pollitt taught in the county schools. Her greatest goal, as a mother, was educating her children. Two of her daughters prepared themselves for teaching careers.

"Mrs. Pollitt, the epitome of noble womanhood and a person who filled every niche in life with complete dedication, was one of her community’s outstanding women.

"Since her husband’s death, Mrs. Pollitt had resided with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ford, of Ewing.

Parker, Mrs. Anna Eliza The Public Ledger, Maysville, Ky. July 7, 1967

"Mrs. Leslie Parker, 82, Dies At Rectorville Home —

"Mrs. Anna Eliza Parker, 82, wife of Leslie C. Parker Sr., died at 1:30 p.m. Friday at their home at Rectorville. Death was ascribed to complications.

"Long a sufferer from arthritis, Mrs. Parker was recently a patient at Hayswood Hospital because of this chronic ailment and had been dismissed just one week ago. But eight years ago this month, she had been under care there following a heart attack.

"Mrs. Parker was a kind and gentle woman whose all-consuming interest was her family. But this devoted wife and mother, known for her compassion, was never too preoccupied with her ‘own’ to share the burdens of neighbors and the uncounted other friends who leaned upon her. Although comparatively small of stature, she towered as a mountain of strength in the lives she touched and influenced. Her sacrificial nature was mirrored in submergence of the pain with which she lived.

"Mrs. Parker long had been a member of the Orangeburg Christian Church and while she had been unable to attend services for several months she kept herself informed about its program and progress.

"The former Anna Eliza Pollitt, a daughter of the late John and Mary Applegate Pollitt, and Leslie Clift Parker were married at Springdale March 14, 1907. They quietly observed a sixtieth wedding anniversary last spring.

"Mrs. Parker’s death was the third in her family connection in a six-month period. Her brother, Oscar A. Pollitt, died February 4 and his wife, Mrs. Ola Bullock Pollitt, little more than two months later.

"The deceased was born in Lewis County October 15, 1884.

"Survivors besides her husband are two daughters and three sons: Mrs. Ray Catherine Ring, Georgetown, O., Mrs. Ralph Lucy Lyons, John F. Parker and Leslie C. Parker, Jr., all of Rectorville, and William C. Parker, Dayton, O. Also she leaves a sister, Mrs. O. D. Garrison, of East Second Street; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

"The Porter and Clay Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

"Mrs. Parker’s Rites Sunday —

"Services for Mrs. Leslie Parker, 82, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Orangeburg Christian Church. Rev. Brian Wendleborn, pastor, and Elder Bayard McCann of the Olivet Methodist Church, will officiate.

"The Porter and Clay Funeral Home will return the body to the residence at Rectorville, where friends may call from 4 o’clock this afternoon until 9 o’clock tonight."
