Copy on file at Mason County Genealogical Museum, submitted by Lula Reed Boss. "This cemetery is beside the Olivet Methodist Church near the Mason and Lewis County line. This cemetery is divided into two sections and the names here represent the oldest stones, primarily those persons born before the 1890's. There are many stones of a later date for persons by the same name as those listed below. The cemetery is approximately 3 miles northeast of Orangeburg, Mason County." 7 pp. Olivet Methodist Church Cemetery headstone inscription: "W. M. Pollitt, M.D., 1836 - 1899." 2. Obituary (Unknown Maysville, Ky. ,newspaper, found in the "Pollitt" family file at the Mason County Genealogical Museum, dated December 25, 1957): "Bernard Barker Pollitt, 81-year-old retired gauger with the U. S. Tax Bureau, died Christmas day at 3:30 a.m. in a Lexington hospital, where he had been a patient for the past 15 months. "Born March 22, 1876, in Lewis county, the deceased was a son of the late Dr. W. M. Pollitt, a Lewis county physician and Ascenath Mullen Pollitt. (Note: see record #699-P) 4. See record #900-P, "Family Notes of Albert Webster Pollitte;" written by AWP prior to his death on November 1, 1953. AWP was a school teacher, public accountant, and insurance agent. It is difficult to determine exactly when or over what period these notes were compiled, but perhaps as early as the early 1930's (see appendix A for additional background). These notes, where verified, have proven extremely accurate. 5. "Dr. W. M. Pollitt, late of Cottageville, has moved to this city and taken up residence in the Sixth Ward, where he will practice his profession. He comes well recommended, both as a citizen and physician." Pollitt of Maysville, Mason County Kentucky, being at this time in good health and of sound and disposing mind and memory and desiring whilst in said condition to settle my worldly affairs do make and publish the following to be and is my last will and testament, to wit: 2nd. I have made advances to my oldest son William M. Pollitt in cash at different times, amounting to one thousand dollars, and he owes me two notes they amount to one hundred & thirty eight dollars, principle. I have paid three notes for him amounting to two hundred twenty dollars, the advances and notes aforesaid amount to thirteen hundred & fifty eight dollars, and which I will to my said son William M. Pollitt and his heirs to have no more of my estate. Witness my hand this 15th day of November, 1881, W. H. Pollitt W. H. Pollitt 11. "Until about 1850 Cabin Creek had never had a resident physician. . . Some time in the sixties Dr. Barnett practiced medicine a few years at Cottageville; also Dr. Barnes tried it a while immediately after Dr. Barnett. After this there was a space of probably ten years, during which time there was not a physician on the creek; then Dr. N. F. Jordan. . .came and began practicing at Cottageville, and he remained a little over a year. A Dr. Winters succeeded him, and remained about six months. After him came Dr. Honaker. . .and remained about three years. . .Dr. Morgan Pollitt came next, and remained two years, and moved to Maysville, leaving his practice to Dr. Dumont, who had already invaded his territory."
