The Source of this Coat of Arms came from another Jennifer Colbert! (married name though!) living in the USA, with Irish and Welsh links, but unfortunately not connected to my own Colbert lineage.

Born 1888 in 5 Catherine St in St Phillips and Jacob district Bristol to an Irish man William James Park who was from Buncrana or Dublin c.1845 and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Taylor from Yeovil Somerset. He the youngest of the family, served with the Navy (H.M.S Severn), and later worked on the railways (G.W.R),He had many older sisters and brothers from his fathers widowed 1st marriage to Eliza Lavinia Lush. Dickie Married Mary Catherine Hawes and settled in Landore Swansea where he continued to work with the railways. He died in 1976 in Mysydd Tce Landore.

My Taylor, Cann and Grenfell lines all were Wesleyan Methodists, This Chapel was the social focal point of all the devonian families that moved to Swansea. The Methodist Chapel situated in Goat's St Landore Swansea, and destroyed by fire on the 21st February 1941 during 3 nights blitz which devastated the centre of Swansea. This picture was from G.P Neilson's Swansea's Wesley Chapel ISBN: 1 870408 16 0.

When gaining more knowledge and information on your family history, you can sometimes make contact with living descendants who also have an avid interest in family history. One such delight of mine was whilst perusing through the library stumbling upon a book entitled "Growing up in Wales" by Jeffrey Grenfell Hill which spoke of my mothers Taylor Grenfell and Cann lines (pages112-119).Jeffrey is indeed my 1st Cousin 3 times removed. His Grandmother Alice Taylor Married an Ernest Grenfell, This Alice is my G-Grandfather "Campbell Charles Taylor's" sister ~ It just goes to show, that you never know who you will meet or what you are going to find out!.
Dr Jeffrey Du Cann Grenfell-Hill grew up in Brynhyfryd Swansea S.Wales, he worked for many years in the theatre, returned to study history at Swansea University. He was awarded a doctorate for his studies, he has also published plays, poetry and material for teachers.This mini biography can be found on a copy of "Growing up in Wales 1895-1939", Published by Gomer Press. I would also like to take time in thanking GOMER PRESS of Llandysul Ceredigion for finding me a copy of the book.

Here is my Great Grandparents grave situated in Morriston Cemetery Swansea S.Wales. It is worth pointing out that birth details can often be interpreted wrongly as was campbell's details, upon having Certified Documentation I can see the the grave stones details are incorrect: Campbell Charles Taylors Birth was: 5th March 1887.Quite a difference to the details on the gravestone.

This is the area near Bideford Devon, that My G-G Grandmother Bessie Cann (then Taylor) originated from I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has Cann lineage in these parts. Other links to this name are Stanlake, Stenlake,Taylor, Goodenough, Goodanew, Andrews Just to name a few!Woolfardisworthy (also found to be “Woolbury” during my research) has been shortened to "Woolsery" by the locals for hundreds of years. It is a predominant name used on signs to this rural community. Situated inland, the small community are housed spaciously around the countryside in the quiet corner of North Devon, the village focal points are: the village shop, post office, inn and church.

William James Park either born in Buncrana Donegal or Dublin Ireland in 1845, He Married Eliza Lavinia Lush, whom died possibly during childbirth He remarried Elizabeth Taylor from Yeovil Somerset (in picture also), She died in 1927 in Jacobs Wells Road in Bristol England of a Heart Attack. Unsure as to William's death but Elizabeth Taylor (Park) died considerably after William, who was a Gas Works employee.

My Maternal Grandfather, born in Neath Road Plasmarl Swansea S.Wales UK, to Catherine "Kitty" Elizabeth Miller and Campbell Charles Taylor. My Grandad was a reknown pigeon fancier and won many awards when living in Portmead Swansea. Only recently one of the longest standing record has been beaten. His line consisted of The Miller's that originated from Bridport Dorset and the Taylor's from Bideford Devon.

The back of this photograph reads: Vaudeville Studio, 70A, High St N East Ham E.6 with the numbers: 023632 - 23631.This Photograph is in my possession, I feel it could possibly be a Bristonian relation, possibly with the surname: Park, Stokes, or Gillam No one is aware as to whom this handsome Man is. The gentleman seems to have been serving in the Navy, possibly H.M.S Severn.

- John Colbert of Irish descent, 1868 - 1943 (35 KB)
Born in Swansea to Irish parents Patrick John Colbert (1840/1) and Mary Fitzgerald (Flynn) c. 1835/6. He grew up with his 2 1/2 brothers James (1857) and Michael Flynn (1864) and Edward Colebert(1870). John returned to Swansea in the late 1880's and married a Lily E Beynon on Christmas Day 1899. He died in Colbourne Tce Swansea July 1943 and is buried with Lily and his son William John who drown in 1922 in Cwmgelli Cemetery Treboeth Swansea. His Colbert line remains. I (Jen Colbert) am the last living Colbert descendant with the Colbert name.

This is the death certificate of my G-G Grandfather Patrick Colbert who died aged 41 in 1885 in Swansea Workhouse, due to his residence there is no mention of Patrick's family. I recently found Patrick's burial place in nearby Dan y Graig Cemetery St Thomas,in a mass paupers grave with no monumental inscription. I have been able to photograph the Cemetery record of his burial. Colbert in Swansea is a very unusual name

My Great Aunt Florence Mary Maud Park sister to my G-Grandfather Richard "Dickie" Thomas Park, Her husband is pictured here "Tom Gillam" who came from a line of Tom Gillams!, They lived in Bristol and had only one child a daughter a very beautiful lady Florence Alice Ceiley Gillam. My Park relations in Swansea S.Wales visited them all in Bristol on regular visits and vice versa.

My Great Grandmother Mary Catherine Hawes Park was born in Plasmarl to Ann Evans and John Hawes, the Hawes descend to Morriston in Swansea and are the only Hawes listed on the 1841 and 1851 Glamorganshire Census. If anyone is linked to these Hawes I would be very interested to hear from you and your lineage. Mary married Richard "Dickie" Thomas Park who came from Bristol England and they settled in landore Swansea where they both died.

1895-1969 My Grandfather born to John Colbert & Lily Beynon in Baptist Wells St Swansea. Christopher had a brother Harry c.1890 who married a Lily Maud Bevan in Swansea He served in the Navy and Army he died in Swansea in 1966.One of his other brother's died young aged 22 through drowning in a local pond ~ Cockett Pond. He also had sisters, Lily & Violet. Christopher served in the 1st world war, he married Violet May Park in November 1938 they had 2 sons & 1 daughter. He died at his family home in Feb 1969 and is buried in Morriston Cemetery with his wife Violet(Park) who died in 1991 and eldest son Derek who died in 2003.

My Uncle Geoffrey James Taylor, born to Campbell Taylor and Annie Gwen Davies. What a funny, lovable character! all my memories of him are happy ones, He served in the Army and was known as Jeff to his friends, he frequented the Cape Horner in Port Tennant Swansea. This photograph was taken in Carter Barracks Bulford in May 1962.

My Grand Mother, a wonderful character born in Heol Fach Treboeth Swansea to Bristonian Richard Thomas Park and Jack! Mary Catherine Hawes, Eldest of many sisters and one brother she married a man "Chistopher James Colbert" 17 yrs her senior, and died in Swansea in Oct 1991.
