The Will of Charles Cox

In the Name of God, Amen. I, Charles Cox of the Parrish of St. George in the County of Charlotte and Province of New Brunswick, being weak in mind and body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, do make and publish this, my last Will and Testament, in manner and form following, that is to say, principally and firstly I recommend my soul unto the hands of Almighty God who gave it, my body to the earth to be interred in a decent and Christianlike way. Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my eldest son, Robert Cox, one cow and two sheep. I do also give and bequeth unto my eldest daughter, Elizabeth Smith, two sheep. I do also give and bequeath unto my second daughter, Ann Stevens, one cow. I go also give and bequeath unto my third daughter, Hannah Lee, two sheep. I do also give and bequeath unto my fourth daughter, Susanna Cox, one cow and two sheep. I do also give and bequeath unto my granddaughter, Rebecca Cox, one cow and two sheep. I do also give and bequeath unto my two youngest sons, James Cox and George Cox, all my land and tenements, situate, lying and being on the east side of the Magaguadavic River, about one mile below the Second Falls thereof, together with the appurtenances thereon and residue of my stock of cattle of every description equally to be divided between them, which said several legacies I will and order shall be given to the said respective legatees at the decease of my beloved wife, Susanna Cox, whom I appoint sole executrix of this my last will and testament. Lastly, I do carefully and prudently keep the said property in her possession during her lifetime, thence to be divided among the aforesaid legatees as above described, and I do hereby disallow and revoke all former testaments, wills, legacies and bequests whatever heretofore by me made if any should exist, ratifying and confirming this, and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness wherof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at St. George aforesaid the 16th day of July in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty.
