Dexter Gibbs (son of John Conley Gibbs and Lenna Ethel Drake) was born Abt. February 23, 1917 in Democrat, Buncombe County, NC, and died February 16, 1944 in Hendersonville, Henderson County, NC. He married Freida Williams.

DEXTER GIBBS LAID TO REST Funeral services for Dexter Gibbs, 26, were held at Edith Grove on Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Sam Huntley officiating. Pallbearers were Horace Gilliam, Steve Young, C.T. Pace, David Jones, Ernest Rogers and Milo Jones. Honorary pallbearers were J.P. Rumfelt, H.G. Carlisle, Sgt. Rome Byda, Blaine Stepp, Carl Rhodes and Doll Sherman. Flower girls were cousins of the deceased. Surviving are his widow Mrs. Frieda Williams Gibbs, two children Jerry and Eddie. One brother, Harold Gibbs of Fletcher, also survives.
