18. ELBERT4 COMPTON (CORA FRANCIS3 DIAL, ROBERT A. (DILE)2, JACOB N.1 DILE) was born 28 August 1911 in Edmonton, Metcalfe, Kentucky, and died 03 January 1978 in Hoopeston, VermilionCounty, Illinois. He married (1) LENA MANNING 28 February 1930 in Covington, Fountain, Indiana. He married (2) ELIZABETH GOULD MCADAMS 19 December 1936 in Watseka, Iroquois County, Illinois.

Paul "Pete" Parker has worked in farm maintenance with Stokely's since January 15, 1946. He and his wife, Helen, reside at 401 McNeil Ave., Hoopeston, Illinois. They have six children: Robert, of San Francisco, Calif., Roberta Dale, of San Mateo, Calif., Marion, of Rossville, Susan Henning and Charles, both of Hoopeston, and Thomas of El Paso, Texas. The Parkers have 20 grandchildren. Parker stated He has no specific hobbies, and just plans to "loaf"
Having joined Stokely's on August 1, 1939, Elbert "PI" Compton stated, when asked about the work changes,"there have been a lot of changes, it has been a nice plce to work....good peiople to work with." "PI" and his wife, the former Elizabeth McAdams, live at 201 E. Wyman. They have five children, Helen Reed, Doris Cannon, Debbie Kay Chandler, Joanie Miles and Elbert Gene all of Hoopeston. They have 11 grandchildren. Compton said he plans to keep busy during his retirement with fishing and catching turtles. He also works on lawn mowers and does carpenter work.
O.E. "Bud" Strawser and his wife, the former Lois Bowles, have lived in Rossville all of their lives. Strawser has been retort room foreman on a regular bases since January 1, 1968. The Strawsers have two sons,Jim, of Athens, Ga., Harold of Downers Grove, and one daughter, Mrs. Virginia Sheffield, Hoopeston. They have two grandchildren, Tim and Debbie Sheffield. Strawser said he plans to fish and do some woodworking. He also repairs small appliances.
Al Rhodes, 209 North Tenth Ave., has worked for Stokely's regularly since June, 1969. Prior to that he worked several years on a seasonal basis. His primary job has been fork truck operator. He and his wife, Betty, have 16 children, Charles, of Miami, Florida, Austin, Hoopeston, Marybell, Milwaukee, Wisconson, Nila Singleton, Vaughn Duckworth, Jerry, Larry, Michael Brian, Patty, Kay, John and Ruth all of Danville. They have 19 grandchildren. Rhodes has four stepchildren, Mrs. Myrna Rhodes, Kenneth Moore, Ricky Duane Moore, and Richard Allen Moore. He has eight step-grandchildren. Rhodes stated that he and his wife plan to travel some, but he will devote most of his time to the band he has organized. He sings, plays the piano, drums and several horns. He and his family have lived in Hoopeston eight years.

Elbert Compton 66, of 201 E. Wyman St., Hoopeston, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (January 3) at his home.
Born March 12, 1911 at Edmonton, Kentucky, he was the son of Lewis and Cora (Dial) Compton. He married Elizabeth McAdams on December 18, 1934 at Covington, Indiana. She preceded him in death on July 10, 1974.
Surviving are his mother Mrs. Cora Compton of Hoopeston, one son Elbert Gene Compton of Hoopeston, four daughters Mrs. Melvin (Helen) Reed of Hoopeston, Mrs. James (Joan) Miles of Newark, Ohio; Mrs. Dave (Doris) Cannon of Hoopeston, Mrs. Terry (Debbie) Chandler, also of Hoopeston, fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are one brother Joe Compton of Hoopeston, and three sisters Mrs. Fannie Fields, Mrs. Evelyn Robertson both of Edmonton, Kentucky and Mrs. Polly Garrison of Hoopeston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Glen, his father, two sisters and one brother.
Mr. Compton was a member of the Moose Lodge 1227 of Hoopeston and had previously been emplyed at Stokely Van Camp for 36 years.
Funeral services will be Thursday at the Hamilton-Orr Funeral home with the Rev. W.D. Huffman offciating. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Wednsday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Foral Hill Cemetery. (In Jan. 3, 1978 paper)

Elberts birth certifcate stated his father was 32 and mother 26 at the time of his birth. It says he was born on March 18,1911, which is his sisters birthday.
