20. WILLIAM CARL⁴ COMER (WILLIAM HENRY³, JAMES W.², ELISHA¹, UNKNOWN^A) was born March 6, 1882, and died October 3, 1919 in Sharpsville, Howard Co., IN. He married ETHEL TAYLOR Abt. December 21, 1906.

Sharpsville Man Falls Victim to Pneumonia

Carl Comer, one of the well known citizens of Sharpsville died Friday afternoon at his home following a week's illness of pneumonia which developed from the Spanish influenza from which he had suffered for a few days.
Mr. Comer was a lineman for the Sharpsville Telephone Co. and was a man held in unusually high regard by every one. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Comer and was born March 6, 1872. When he was only about four weeks old his mother died and he was immediately taken by Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Hercules of Center and was reared by them.
His father resides in Kokomo. He was married to Miss Ethel Taylor of Center, and the devoted wife and three children, Louis, aged 10, Thelma, aged 8, and Eugene, aged three survives him with this foster mother, Mrs. Hercules. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. C. Wiltsie and two foster sisters, Mrs. Metta Hatton of Kokomo and Mrs. Flora Miller of Center.
Mr. Comer was a member of the Methodist church and during his last illness when racked with suffering, expressed his faith and told them the way was clear for him, and in his last moments gave the wife and mother assurance of his deep trust while making his final business arrangements, conscious that death was near.
Funeral services well be held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Rev. Jacobs, his pastor. Burial at Sharpsville cemetery. Mrs. Comer is a victim of the influenza and has been very ill during her husband's illness.

(The date of birth for William Carl Comer indicated above is apparently incorrect. It appears that it should be March 6, 1882, because that is about four weeks ahead of the death of Julia Ratcliff Comer, who is probably his mother. Wm. H. Comer's second wife died in 1892. Her stone is at New London Cemetery.)

Mrs. L. W. Hercules (Hepsiba) who took Carl after his mother died was Wm. H. Comer's sister. Howard County marriage records indicate that his full name was William C.(arl) Comer, and he married Ethel Taylor Dec. 21, 1906 (license date).
