| There are over 500 Surnames and 2000 individuals in this data base. If you are here, you probably came over from a link from my original COMPTON Genealogy site. I've set this site so one can view the family tree and slowly but surely add photos. My original site can be seen at by clicking on the "Related Links" below. It set up with individual pages.. this site organizes the tree view. If you are wondering about these Comptons, of Grove Lake (Minnesota) these are the ancestors and descendants of Eugene "Gene" Duane Compton and Mary Genevieve "Genny" Compton. They had their 9 children in the late 1800's and spread out to the farming plains of Saskatchewan, Montana and North Dakota during the early 1900's. Since then we are spread from Florida to Alaska. So enjoy!! Compton Trivia: The Compton name evolves from various spellings; Compton, Comton, Comtown, Cumton, Crumpton and Crampton.. to just name a few. The origins are Anglo-Saxon.. COMP.. "a hill"... TON "enclosed hedge, a clan settlement, ie. town" The orginal anscestor is said to be Chief ALWYNE who fought against William the Conqueor in 1066. This is about as far back as it gets! Later, his direct descendant son, Thomas Compton found favor with William and retained his lordship of COMPTON in Warwick in which 47 manors are listed in the Domesday Book. Monty G.
