Notes for Vincent Ernest Ferrara: Uncle Gene tells of a story grandpa told him about his boyhood back in Castlebuono...
He was in the big church one day and there was an old lady who pointed up to a mummified man entombed up in a crypt high up in the wall and said something like... "If you had the holiness that man had in his little finger..." Well, grandpa wanted some of that holiness...so later he and his friends went back, one boy was a lookout while grandpa climbed up and broke off a finger and carried it around for a long time like a lucky rabbit's foot.
In 1933, he was awarded the cross of the Cavalier of the Crown of Italy by King Victor Emmanual III.
In 1959, Pope John XXIII conferred the Order of St. Sylvester of the Roman Catholic Church upon him.
He was supreme treasurer of the Italo-American National Union and president of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans. After he died they named a lodge after him, "The Vincent E. Ferrara Lodge".
