Notes for Maria Christina Anderson: As tough as Gustav Lindstrom was...that gentle was his wife, Maria Christina Anderson.
They had been introduced by their families while they were both living in Sweden. He contacted her shortly after she arrived in this country. She was living in Iron Mountain, Michigan. She worked for the postmaster and used to bake bread for her employer, Mr. Griffin. Her first attempts she later learned were fed to the horse.
Maria eventually joined Gustav in Chicago where they were married between 1882 and 1885.
Maria spoke English well and read everything she could get. She would pay dad 25 cents for original stories he would write.
She had never seen or tasted a banana until she arrived here, so consequently, she didn't know how to eat one. she tried to eat the skin and threw the inside away. Understandably, she never ate another.
There was another daughter, Anna Christina, who died at the age of 7. One hot day she had been playing on an ice truck ...caught pneumonia (or possibly Typhoid) and died. Grandma was only two years old and went around the house looking for "Stina". She was used to playing hide and seek behind the curtains with her.
