Generation No. 1

1. JAMES FRANKLIN2 HENDRICKSON (RICHARD1) was born February 29, 1832 in DeSoto, Jefferson County,Missouri, and died 1913 in Pearsoll, Frio County, Texas.. He married JUDAH MARIA ADAMS November 10, 1853 in Jefferson County, Missouri, daughter of JOSEPH ADAMS and AMANDA MOSS. She was born February 1832 in Jefferson County, Missouri, and died September 22, 1907 in Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.

Notes for J
The obituary of James Franklin Hendrickson seems to indicate that his father was Richard Hendrickson who died in 1844. Although James is not listed as one of the heirs in Richard's probate, I feel that it could have been just an omission. The obituary states that James was born on what is now known as the Frank Vaughn farm. This article was written in 1913. Research needs to be done on land records to find this farm and see who owned it in 1832 when James was born. That will give me the positive proof as to whether Richard is his father.

Jefferson Count Circuit Court Record found by researchers, Carolyn Medlin and Nellie Karnes says the following:
Friday, September 21st, 1846
The court appoints Peter Stroup guardian of Caroline M. Hendrickson a minor aged thirteen years also Richard Hendrickson a minor aged twelve years also of Mary Ann Hendrickson a minor aged thirteen years. minor heirs of Richard Hendrickson deceased he is required to give bond in the sum of fifty dollars to the use of each minor.

It is ordered by the court that Louis Hendrickson. James Hendrickson and Elizabeth ("I" or "J") Hendrickson heirs of Richard Hendrickson be notified to appear at the next term of this court and choose guardians.

This too, seems to authenticate that James is a son of Richard, even though on the probate he is not listed as one of the heirs.

Notes for J
Judah Maria Adams Hendrickson died from asthma according to the death record. Death record is #13999. The record misspelles her last name referring to her as "Henderson". It also states her age as 46, but that is a misreading of the Mortality record which states age 76, which would be correct. The key clue which identifies this Juda "Henderson" as Judah Hendrickson is her address, 1959 N. 12th. This is the same address listed by James Franklin Hendrickson on his pension filing in Kansas City, KS. It should also be noted that she was called Judith rather than Judah. Her grandson, Jack Morgan Hendrickson says her name was Judith and she is listed as Judith in James Franklin's pension papers. She is buried in Quindaro Cemetery, Section six, Lot 33.

An interesting story told by Almeda Hendrickson Ostrander (a great-granddaughter) goes like this:
During the Civil War the militia went from house to house gathering up guns for the war effort. When they came to Judith's house, she refused to give them her guns. She stated that her husband was away in the war and she wasn't about to give them up as she needed to protect her family. It is said that she kept her guns.
