Unknown Crawford may have been born abt. 1770 and may have been originally located in the Orange County, Va. or Augusta County, Va. area.
It is not confirmed, but there are strong indications that Unknown Crawford fathered at least two sons, John Crawford who married Mary "Polly" Raines and Zachariah Crawford who married Cibba Raines. Both of these presumed sons resided in Rockingham County, Va.
A likely prospect for John and Zachariah Crawford's father is the Zachariah Crawford, Sr. who is mentioned in the early Rockingham County, Va. tax records. However, there is also a Martin Crawford, Sr., and a William Crawford, Sr. mentioned in those Rockingham County, Va. early tax lists who were of the correct age. And there is an Edmund Crawford found in the 1820 and 1830 Rockingham County, Va. census records who was of the correct age to father both John and Zachariah.
