"William and John Griffin from Wales and Emanuel Stout a young educated english gentleman came to the Delaware Peninsula at that time included in the Penn purchase, with or abot the time William Penn made his second voyage to America 1699- They were financially in good circumstances, William Griffin bought a large tract of land a portion of which joined the town of Smyrna Kent Co- Here he built of brick his mansion house- he had five children three boys and two girls, Charles, David, William, Mary and Martha. Emanuel Stout married Mary Griffin and David Griffin married Emanuel Stouts daughter, Hannah- David Griffin was the father of Jacob Stout and Ellen Griffin, consequently William Griffin from Wales and Emanuel Stout were both grand fathers of Jacob Stout Griffin our mothers Father- Another rare occurrence in a new country is that our Great Grandfather, grand father mother Sister Olivia and myself were all born in the same house built by our great, great, Grand Father from Wales- It come to pass in this wise, In 1877 when grand father was preparing to leave Delaware for Ohio, our father purchased the historic brick house and part of his land, Rented his mill property at Dover. Acompanied the Griffin familie to Ohio married our mother there, returned to Delaware, lived in the old family mansion house untill I was a month or two old when the lease on his Dover property expired and he reoccupied it."
