The Wrights of LancashireUpdated January 20, 2008 |
I am primarily interested in finding Wright family links back to England. James Wright possibly came to the Philadelphia area from Bristol, England, in the mid-1600s. The Wrights became Quakers in England (I believe previously having been Anglican), then were part of Quaker monthly meetings in Chester County, Pa.; Frederick, Va.; Guilford County, N.C.; and Randolph County, Ind. Later, a portion of the family became involved with the United Brethren in Christ. My great-grandfather Jonathan Ruble Wright was a minister whose "day job" was as a plasterer/masonry worker. The Wrights I am descended from (my maiden name was Wright) appear to have originated in Lancashire, England. Other surnames of interest: Ruble (descended from Ulrick of the Palatinate region of Germany through Rachel Ruble, my great-great grandmother); Haworth; Hiatt; Thornbrough (Thornburgh, etc.); and Mendenhall. On my mother's side, surnames include Partridge; Lovett (Lovat?); Stow(e). Some of these have been researched extensively by others (including Dennis Partridge's Partridge Nest). It appears my Partridges are descended from the second of three wives of Sylvester Barron Partridge, Sarah Collins. Not as much has been found on this branch, so that remains a line to pursue. Any help is profoundly appreciated! Wendy Contos June 6, 2005 |
