Story handed down was that Annie was a beautiful woman and the thought of growing old had her turn to alcohol for comfort.. (story given to Carol Cooper, by mother Dorothy McLean who heard it from Charles McLean). Dorothy relayed the story how the boys (grandsons) use to get alcohol for their grandma.
Story per Barbara Shultz: Gram Leona described her as very much a taskmaster thumping children on the head with her heavy gold ring on her hand when she was displeased or wanted to get your attention.
