John Charles Fremont McLean's family came to U.S. when England invaded Scotland. In later years John Charles Freemont McLean and his father returned to Scotland in order to reclaim castle. Records to prove ownership of the castle were burned along with the church they were stored in, therefore the castle could never be reclaimed.
John Charles Fremont died in his 90's. The summer before he died he did his favorite thing.. played baseball. Lived with his daughter Belle Bailey at the time of death. Ms. Bailey had a maternity home in Roundup, MT.
The McLean's were coal miners.
The Roundup Record Tribune.. November 4, 1948: J.F.C. "DAD" McLEAN, VETERAN MINER, DIES AT AGE OF 93
John C. F. McLean, 93, died Saturday, October 30, about 3:00 o'clock A.M. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Belle Bailey.
Mr. McLean was born August 8, 1855 in Westmorland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John and Helen McLean and came to Kansas with his parents in 1869 when he was fourteen years and then went back to Pennsylvania to work in the mines until 1876 when he was married to Miss Anna Logan May 5, 1876. He lived on the farm and held positions as foreman and superintendent of mines in Kansas, Missouri and Colorado until 1913 when he came to Wyoming and then to roundup. He was employed with the Roundup coal Mining company until his retirement in 1929.
Mrs. McLean died May 24, 1935 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bailey. They had been married 59 years on May 5 preceding her death.
Mr. McLean is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Bailey of Roundup; Mrs. Hannah Gesslein of Mulberry, Kansas; Mrs. Ella Nipson of Greenville, South Carolina, Mrs. Agnes Welsh of Birmingham, Alabama and a son, John McLean of Roundup, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and on great great grandchild.
"Dad" McLean has been very active up until the last year. When he ws 90 he toured the eastern and souther states visiting his daughters and their families. He celebrated his 93rd birthday at an open house at the Masonic Hall August 5, 1948.
He was named John Charles Fremont McLean at birth in honor of the first Republican candidate for president of the United States.
Funeral services were held at the Roberts funeral home Monday, November 1 at 2:00 o'clock P.M. with Rev. John W. Bartram of the Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellows cemetery.
Pallbearers were Al Ridley, James Weir, G. J. Jeffries, John Carlson, Bruce Fawcett and Vern Gossman.John Charles Fremont McLean's family came to U.S. when England invaded Scotland. They say John Charles Freemont's wife was a beautiful woman. The thought of growing old had her turn to alcohol for comfort.

The McLean's were into coal mining.
