WKS Bk 10 p 56 Deed Bk 7 p 174 lists sale of property 100 ac. by Sherwood Grimsley to Samuel Harper dated 17 Sep 1760 suggesting Samuel 21 by then. WKS Bk 10 p 108 NC Marriages lists Samuel as father of John in marriage to Lucy Morris dated 13 Jun 1783. If father and son both 21 at time of marriage this would make Samuel born at least 1740 or 1739. PFS Bk 4 p 45 Abstracts of Granville Grantees Halifax Co, NC Deed Bk 8 p. 24, James Harper of Halifax Co 10 Dec 1760, 139 ac. This implies James Harper at least 21 years old at this time. James Harper is deceased at time of father, Henry Harper, will dated Sep 1765 listing James with three children. This suggests James may have been born approx. 1738.
