Notes for ELI W. OGDEN: CSA Georgia Records Vol. 5 pg.309 CO. C. 50th Ga. Vol. Coffee County Guards Private enlisted 9/5/1862 Coffee Co. Guards Notes from Ross F. Rogers III CSA research (excerpts): Eli W. ogden enlisted as a Private on September 5, 1862 in Company C of the 50th Georgia volunteer Infantry. The Company was primarily from Coffee County and were called the Coffee County Guards. This unit was part of the Army of northern Virginia commanded by Robert E. Lee and surrendered at Appomattox. Eli, however, died in General Hospital #7 in Richmond, Va. on November 9, 1862. He may have participated in the Battle of Antietam (9/16-9/17/1862). Eli never married. |
