| The Bunces were early settlers of Connecticut and Long Island. The Platts and Rogers also lived in Long Island in Colonial times. The Bunces moved on to upstate New York and many finally settled in Iowa. The Coons are believed to be Maccoons from Scotland. In America they settled in Rhode Island and then Petersburg, New York where there is a historical marker identifying the site of the original Hezekiah Coon tavern. Abner Cook is belived to have been born in Ohio. He moved to Iowa and settled in Chariton before going on to Republican City, Nebraska where he is buried. Abner Cook's grandson married Sarah Larrington, daughter of Robert Larrington, who came to America from England and also settled in Chariton. The Larringtons were coal miners. The Cooks eventually went to Des Moines where many descendants still live. |
