2. THOMAS2 JAMES (DANIEL1)1,2 was born August 21, 1815, and died November 20, 1869. He married (1) MARY FIELDER. He married (2) ELIZABETH JAMES July 15, 1837, daughter of ABNER JAMES.

HOMAS JAMES:
Thomas James was one of the most substantial cities in Franklin County prior to the Civil War. Born August 21, 1815. Died November 20, 1869. His mother, whose maiden name was Hegwood (or Hagood) and was famed for her knowledge of simple medical sciences, was a pioneer settler on Duncan Creek. Also Abner James, an uncle of Thomas James was an early settler in that part of the county. The James family came from Bedford Co. TN and is of Irish extraction.
Thomas James owned a plantation of more than seven hundred acres and a number of slaves, on Duncan Creek,His wheat mill ground a large part of the wheat and corn grown in Russell's Valley, Cedar Creek bottoms, and the hill country for mile around. That mill which was operated by water power (overshot) was truly one of the historical places of the country. The 1850 census records the value of his real estate as $1000.
Mr. James was a member of the Baptist Church and was one of the main pillars first at Hepzibah and later at Duncan Creek. He was also a Mason and a Democrat. His character is aid to be have been excellent. He was a man of great sympathy and did much to help those who were in distress.
He was twice married. His first wife was Mary Fielder. She was a cousin of Richard B. and Rufus Burleson, prominent Baptist preachers, and famed as the founders of Baylor University in Texas.
His second wife was Miss Elizabeth James, daughter of Abner James. She was a typical Southern lady, beautiful, virtuous, and intelligent. She was a great believer in the Southern cause. Her death occurred December 10, 1894. She was in her seventy-fifth year.
Thomas James had one son by his first wife. This was William Anderson James, who was born February 5, 1836, and died in 1912. He was a life-long citizen of Franklin County, a highly respected gentleman, and the father of Walter, William Joseph, and James C. James. The children of the second marriage who reached manhood and womanhood were:

Only four of the children are living at this date (1927). They are;
1. Mrs. Mc Natt
2. Andrew Jackson
3. Aaron A.
4. Burley Houston
All reside in Franklin County. All the other children were citizens of Franklin County, but Jasper emigrated to Saline County, Arkansas, and later to Magazine, Arkansas, where he is buried. Mrs. Vinson and husband also emigrated to Arkansas and later to Oklahoma, where she is buried.
Hundreds of the descendants of Thomas James resided in Franklin and Colbert counties as well as in Arkansas, Georgia, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, and elsewhere.
