The first and simplest emotion which we discover in the human mind is curiosity. By Edmund Burke, a British Statesman.
I have always been curious about my ancestors. I am researching the ancestors of William Allen KINNER, my maternal grandfather, born in 1883, son of Theodore Corklin Kinner and Margaret A. FANNIN, of Buchanan, Kentucky, Lawrence County. Elizabeth BOLT, my maternal grandmother, born in 1884, daughter of Isaac Marion Bolt and Nancy Margaret DURNEY, of Boltsfork, Kentucky, Boyd County.
My paternal grandfather, Floyd William SELLARDS, born in 1881, in Magoffin Co. Kentucky. He was the son of William Sellards, birthdate unknown, and Sophia Jane AMYX, born 1848 in Morgan Co. Kentucky. Sophia was the daughter of James Fleming Amyx, born 1822, and Micha Lemaster, born 1825. I cannot find parents for William, I have two books on the Sellards families, but I cannot find a connection. My paternal grandmother, Ella Ellington JAYNE, born 1890, at Big Paint Creek, Johnson Co. Kentucky. Ella was the daughter of Henry Harrison Jayne and Paulina ELLINGTON Jayne.
In my searching I have found a connection to these names on my paternal side. Sellards, Amyx, Boyd, Hairston, Stovall, Lemaster, Jayne, Williams, Jane, Ramey, Wheeler, Jones, Brickey, Ellington, Dewitt, Thatcher, Bailey, Allerton, Caskey, Lewis, Hopkins, Joslin, Whaley, Matteson, Shippe, Hampson, Vest, Chambers, and Matteson.
On my maternal side, I find these names. Kinner, Howe, Hood, Winder, Warsham, Hewitt, Stewart, Burgess, Elliott, Rodham, Francis, Lafferty, Garland, Fannin, Riffe, Clay, Ferguson, Burton, Vaughn, Bingamon, Bolt, Clay, Booton, Cecil, Witten, White, Cabaniss, Sollers, Hilliard, Durney, Bloss, Smith, Fosterdinger, Simms, Schmidt, Strohm, Rucker, Simms, Downing, Phillips, Fielding, and Lloyd.
These families are from England, France, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, South Wales, Barbados, and elsewhere.
