Notes for J
OHN O'SULLIVAN:
The following was taken from a book entitled "Fossembault" that was published on the 10th Anniversary of Lake St. Joseph in 1946. The article recounts an interview in April 1876 by A.N. Montpetit, editor of "Opinion Publique" with Owen O'Sullivan, Owen was 77 years old at the time.

Owen states that in 1811, his father John O'Sullivan (married to Mary Landers) left Ireland for Newfoundland and that they arrived in Quebec the following year. (Catherine O'Sullivan was born in 1811 in Newfoundland, my 3rd gg) Owen recounts that in 1812 war was declared between England and the United States. His father John O'Sullivan had the intention of joining his great uncles in Providence, but the war prevented him from doing that.

With money from the sale of a property in St. John's, Newfoundland, he bought a lot of land on the St. Charles River from a Mr. Desbarats. Mr. Desbarats had bought a boat and Owen O'Sullivan became the Captain of the boat for a number of years.

In 1821, the O'Sullivan's bought nine lots of land in the Settlement of St. Patrick (later the parish of Ste. Catherine) On May 21, 1822, they left their farm on the St. Charles River (Petite Rivière) where they have lived for 10 years, and moved to Valcartier where John O'Sullivan rented land for 2 years. Although the O'Sullivan moved back to Quebec City, they maintained their land in Ste. Catherine.
